Tour of Valtellina

In one of the most stunning areas of Lombardy, surrounded by towering mountains, this land, once known as "CONTEA DI BORMIO", is the home of 3 valleys: the Valdidentro, the Valdisotto and the Valfurva. We will be staying at the "Magnifica Terra" centre in Bormio, the ideal location in which to appreciate the warm hospitality of the Valtellinese people.


TYPICAL ITINERARY:

  • Sunday - Day 1: Arrival and check at a 3 star hotel. Welcome drink, dinner and overnight accommodation in the hotel.
  • Monday – Day 2: Breakfast in the hotel, during the morning a guided tour of the town of Bormio. Lunch in the hotel. In the afternoon a visit to the civic museum and the thermal springs. Dinner and overnight accommodation in the hotel.
  • Tuesday – Day 3: Breakfast in the hotel. Excursion to Livigno, the renowned "Tax Free Zone". Lunch in a restaurant. Free time for shopping. Return to the hotel for dinner.
  • Wednesday - Day 4: Breakfast in the hotel. In the morning a visit to the Villa Visconti Venosta in Grosio and the Basilica of Madonna of Tirano. Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon visit to the Amaro Braulio wine cellars followed by wine tasting. Slide show of the various flora and fauna found in the Stelvio National Park. Evening meal..
  • Thursday – Day 5: Breakfast in the hotel. Excursion to St.Moritz, visit of the town and lunch in a restaurant.. For a supplement it is possible to travel by the Bernina train. Return to the hotel. Typical Valtellinese evening meal..
  • Friday – Day 6: Breakfast in the hotel. Excursion to the Cancano Lakes, open air barbecue. Alternatively return to the hotel for lunch. During the afternoon visit the geological museum. Return to the hotel for dinner.
  • Sabato 7° giorno: Breakfast in hotel. Set off home.

EXAMPLE ITINERARY

  • Day 1 - Arrival at Cagliari. Transfer to hotel for evening meal and overnight accommodation. (Teulada c/o Hotel Baia delle Ginestre****).
  • Day 2 - Breakfast in the hotel and departure for the first stage of the tour: Capo Teulada – 21 Km - Is Zuddas – 8 Km - Santadi – 5 Km - Villaperuccio – 11 Km – Tratalias – 20 Km - Porto Pino – 22 Km - CapoTeulada = Tot. Km. 88
    Is Zuddas: visit to the caves ( entrance fee payable locally ) which open out into the limestone of Monte Meana, 236 m above sea level. They are made up of four rooms in which you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other rock formations in fairy tale like surroundings.
    Santadi: visit to the town in the heart of Sulcis, located in an area of astounding natural beauty on the slopes of Monte Meana. In the town’s main square you’ll find the Ethnographic Museum, which bears witness to the history and social evolution of the people of Sulcis.
    Visit to the local wine cellar followed by a Sardinian wine tasting. Villaperuccio: visit to the Necropolis of Montessu.
    Tratalias: visit to the roman Basilica of Santa Maria.
    Porto Pino: : visit to the beautiful white sandy beaches with their huge, impressive dunes.
    Evening meal back at the hotel followed by an evening of local dancing. Overnight accommodation in the hotel. (Teulada c/o Hotel Baia delle Ginestre****).
  • Day 3 – Breakfast in the hotel followed by departure for the 2nd stage of the tour: Capo Teulada – 15 Km – S.ta Anna Arresi – 29 Km – Sant’Antioco /Calasetta ( embarkation for the island of San Pietro ) - Carloforte = Tot. 55 Km
    Sant’Anna Arresi: visit to the unique archeological trails, from the first remains of the prehistoric man of Sarri to the numerous ‘nuraghi’ (including Arresi, Sarri, Punta Acuzza and Giara), the Giants’ Tombs and the settlement of Coi Casu, located just over 1 Km from the centre.
    Sant’Antioco: : trip along the trails between the most important ‘nuraghi’ of the island; visit to the Museums and the temporary exhibitions of Neolithic discoveries, archaeological finds dating back thousands of years and Pheonician testimonies (entrance fee payable locally).
    Isola di San Pietro: visit to Carloforte, the only inhabited village on the island, where the Civic Museum is located inside the seventeenth century Fort Carlo Emanuele III . Visit to the countless characteristic caves that take the name of the locality in which they are situated. Visit to the Observatory of Astronomy (entrance fee payable locally).
    Return to the hotel in Teulada with the Gran Turismo Bus. Transport is provided for the bicycles.
    Typical Sardinian fish based dinner followed by dancing.
    Overnight accommodation (Teulada c/o Hotel Baia delle Ginestre****).
  • Day 4 - breakfast in the hotel followed by the 3rd stage of the tour: Capo Teulada – 22 Km - Domus de Maria – 14 Km – Is Cannoneris - 20 Km – Chia – 23 Km – Porto Teulada = Tot. 79 Km
    Domus de Maria: visit to this evocative, characteristic village still strongly linked to its old traditions.
    Is Cannoneris: walk through the Sulcis natural park through the indescribable forest of oaks, chestnut trees and strawberry trees in a vast, uncontaminated landscape; a breeding ground of the Sardinian deer with a picnic area from which it is possible to reach the towering, bright walls of Calamixi.
    Chia: visit to the Spanish Tower situated on the headland, which watched over the acropolis of the ancient city of Bithia from which you can admire the splendid beach of sand and pebbles in the form of a half moon framed by the crystal clear sea waters.
    Return to the hotel. Typical Sardinian dinner with “porceddu” cooked in the garden followed by dancing.
    Overnight accommodation in the hotel (Teulada c/o Hotel Baia delle Ginestre****).
  • Day 5 - breakfast in the hotel followed by departure on the 4th stage of the tour: Capo Teulada – 41 Km – Pula/Nora – 32 Km – Cagliari – 30 Km – Geremeas = Tot. 103 Km
    Pula: visit to the village which is important for its houses in typical campidanesi style; the neoclassical church of Giovanni Battista; the seventeenth century chapel of San Raimondo and the Villa of Santa Maria, a rich patrician residence in the 18th century.
    Nora: : visit to the city which for centuries was an important commercial port of call in the centre of the Mediterranean and where evidence of the Phoenician and Roman times is still apparent in the countless archaeological remains spread across the small villages and homes (the Temple of the Goddess Tanit, the partially conserved necropolis, the thermal centre with its mosaic, the forum, the theatre and the impressive underground pipes).
    Cagliari: visit to the principle city and port of Sardinia located on the south coast of the island, on the plains of Campidano, at the most inland point of the gulf. Not to be missed: the Bastione of Saint Remy, a spectacular lookout from the 18th Century, based on Spanish bastions, the castle, the most ancient part of the city surrounded by terraces and towers, the Elephant Tower, the Cathedral, the City of Museums, the Roman Ampitheatre, the Necropolis of Tuvixeddu and numerous churches.
    Arrive at the next hotel, dinner, evening entertainment and overnight accommodation ( c/o Calaserena Village****).
  • Day 6 - Breakfast in hotel followed by departure for the the 5th stage of the tour: Geremeas – 37 Km – Dolianova – 53 Km - Barumini = Tot. 90 Km
    Dolianova: visit to the Cathedral of San Pantaleo, the headquarters of the bishop during the 14th century, and the church of San Biagio, constructed in late gothic style during the 16th Century, which formed part of the village of Sicci San Biagio belonging to the Aragonesi since 1300.
    Barumini:visit to the Reggia Nuragica Su Nuraxi, one of the most famous and important archaeological sites of Sardinia. Return to the village with by bus, dinner and evening out in Cagliari. Overnight accommodation (c/o Calaserena Village****).
  • Day 7 - Breakfast in the hotel followed by departure for the 6th stage of the tour: Geremeas – 20 Km – Villasimius – 39 Km – Muravera – 50 Km – Geremeas = Tot. 109 Km
    Villasimius: visit the long ribbons of white sand, enchanted baches with breath taking views, cliffs, crystal clear waters, coastal pools and ancient towers along the coast before heading inland to the rugged mountains of Sarrabus.
    Muravera: visit to the town, the largest in Sarrabus, and to the numerous enchanting beaches that surround it.
    Dinner and evening entertainment (c/o Calaserena Village****).
  • Day 8 – Departure from Cagliari Airport to Milan.
